 6 years up to 1909 and was inspired by the mysticism in the poems of Walt 
 Whitman. Vaughan Williams was integral in establishing a strong British cl
 assical sound\, this being only shortly after great works like Holst Plane
 ts and Debussy's La Mer were composed\, an era of expansive development of
