SUMMARY:Rutter requiem
DESCRIPTION:We are performing John Rutter's Requiem\, Mark Lawrence’s Th
e Singing Will Never be Done\, Janáček's The Lord's Prayer (Otčená
 š) and Stanford's For\, lo\, I raise up.\n\nRutter's Requiem is one of
the best-loved and most widely performed choral works of the twentieth ce
ntury. The seven sections form an arch-like meditation on the themes of l
ife and death.\n\nThe Singing Will Never Be Done was commissioned by our c
hoir at the time of the death of the last veteran of the First World War
and we first performed it in 2006. It combines a short narrative on the w
ell-known Christmas Truce\, followed by a setting of Siegfried Sassoon’s
well known poem\, Everyone Sang.\n\nJanáček’s setting of The Lord's
Prayer is a masterpiece of raw emotion\, intimacy\, and striking dramati
c contrasts. Paired with the sweeping\, turbulent intensity of Stanford’
 s prophetic anthem For\, lo\, I raise up.\n\n\n\n \n\nFor full event det
